Beyond the best skiing and snowboarding in North America
Sure, Whistler is known around the world for its Olympic-calibre downhill skiing and snowboarding. But off the slopes there lies an all-round winter wonderland that offers unique and exciting outdoor adventures for everyone from adrenaline-addicted freaks to laidback weekend warriors.
Snowmobiling
Getting out into the snow and the wilderness and having fun is what snowmobile tours are all about. Be thrilled by the sensation of driving or share this mountain experience with a friend as you embark on a Black Country adventure.
Dog sledding
Want to experience something truly Canadian? Then dog sled in snow-covered meadows, through pristine forests and right into the greatest winter adventure you’ll ever have. Led by Alaskan Huskies, dog sledding is a ‘mush’-do for families and lone-wolves alike. Some tours include gourmet dining at the Callaghan Lodge.
Nordic skiing
Experience parts of Whistler not usually accessible in winter. You’ll be so busy drinking in the stunning views and reveling in the indescribable peacefulness that you might not notice just how great of a workout you’re getting.
Guided backcountry tours
You fancy yourself an out-of-the-box thinker do you? Well then guided backcountry tours might just be the adventure for you. Ski and snowboard touring, telemark skiing, snowshoeing, ice climbing and several other backcountry tours are available beyond the boundaries of Whistler. With a professional guide, even families or beginners can tour into the backcountry to discover Whistler’s pristine alpine wilderness.
Heli-skiing
Tired of the crowds? 90% of the world's heli-skiing takes place in British Columbia, Canada. With over 432,000 acres, and hundreds of glaciers, where do YOU want to go? Experience Whistler’s stunning back yard like never.
Moonlit sleigh rides
A magical Whistler experience, with giant Percheron horses gently guiding you through a snowy landscape while you rest snuggly under warm blankets sipping hot chocolate.
Dinner packages are also available with most outfitters and include a gourmet fondue dinner after a beautiful ride around Green Lake, on Blackcomb Mountain, or around the Fairmont Chateau Golf Course.
And if you’re feeling particularly romantic, you can book a private sleigh ride. You devil!
Get the adrenalin pumping!
Bungee Jumping
Make your Whistler getaway even more memorable by launching yourself off a bridge high above the Cheakamus River. Whistler Bungee, located just 15 minutes from Whistler Village, is BC's highest year-round bungee jumping venue, featuring a 53-metre (160-foot) drop. You’ve don’t have to be crazy, just a little nuts!
Ziplining
Ever wondered what it feels like to fly? Ziplining comes pretty close, as you reach speeds close to 100 km/h and soar through treetops and high above Fitzsimmons Creek .
There are two different tour options, ranging from an awe-inspiring 2,000 foot zipline that drops 20 stories to a beginner tour that's perfect for families and first-timers. Both tours feature five ziplines.
Summer
The same legendary slopes and pristine backcountry that draw adventurers all winter long come alive with adventures of a different sort in summertime. It’s time you discovered the sunny side of Whistler.
Mountain Biking
It’s where the rubber hits the mud! From stunning high alpine terrain to West Coast single-track, to arguably the world’s best mountain bike park, Whistler is a rider’s paradise. Whiski Jack features bike-friendly accommodations with secure storage areas, and rental shops that stock the sickest rides.
Hiking
The Whistler area is home to hundreds of renowned trails, hikes and climbs that lead you through old-growth forests, over glaciers and deep into the pristine alpine backcountry.
Many routes are close to Whistler Village, while others take you high up to the peaks of snow-capped mountains.
And now The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola connects Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains at their summits and opens up Blackcomb for summer hiking. It’s the peak of summer fun.
Golf
It’s kind of easy to see why Whistler was rated Canada's number one golf destination by Golf Digest; four perfectly manicured courses designed by names like Nicklaus and Palmer, alpine views everywhere and a full slate of spas, restaurants, clubs and more to entertain after your round. It’s the golf vacation you’ve been waiting fore. (yes, we went there)
Horseback riding
Saddle up for an exploration of the Whistler area, cowboy-style. From gentle meanders along mountain trails to longer rides up mountain paths, you're sure to find the horseback tour that's just right for your riding skills (or lack thereof.)
There are even pony rides for the kids and carriage rides for those who prefer horse-drawn to horseback.
